LumenRadio is a Swedish company based in Gothenburg, specialising in wireless communication for various protocols. It has commercial offices in Germany, Norway and the USA.
The adventure began in 2008 when the brand offered to replace all DMX cables with a wireless system at the Coachella festival, one of the most challenging wireless communication environments imaginable. From then on, the W-DMX and CRMX protocols swept the global market and became indispensable standards. Today, the brand covers 90% of the wireless DMX market, and a large number of manufacturers already integrate CRMX modules into their luminaires for wireless DMX control. LumenRadio’s expertise has expanded, and the brand now offers solutions based on patented wireless technology not only for lighting control, but also for building automation and industrial communication.
Technology
CRMX (Cognitive Radio Multiplex) is a system patented by LumenRadio. It uses frequencies in the licence-free 2.4 GHz band. It is important to note that CRMX is neither Wi-Fi nor Bluetooth.
The CRMX system features the patented Cognitive Coexistence technology. This scans the 80 radio frequencies within the defined bandwidth approximately 1,500 times per second and switches to a free frequency in case of interference on the current one. This provides a uniform signal as reliable as a wired DMX connection. It is a perfect technology for entertainment and film production applications where a reliable and secure connection is essential.
CRMX technology is compatible with the W-DMX standards G3, G4, G4s and G5, meaning all devices equipped with W-DMX modules from the past 10 years.
In summary:
- CRMX frequency range: 2,402 to 2,480 MHz
- Frequency scanning 1,500 times per second
- Immediate adaptation to the best frequency
- Latency: < 5 ms
- Signal synchronisation across all receivers
- Error correction
- RDM transport
- 128-bit link encryption
- Compatible with W-DMX G3/G4/G4s/G5
Product Range
The range is deployed across different industry sectors:
- Stick RX & Orb TX: The Orb and Stick (W-DMX protocol) are designed for simple plug-and-play applications for small venues or events that require only a single DMX universe.
- Moonlite, Luna, Aurora & Stardust: The Moonlite, Luna, Aurora and Stardust use CRMX technology and are dedicated to more sophisticated applications in the entertainment and film industries. All are both transmitters and receivers, meaning they can control fixtures equipped with integrated W-DMX modules (such as TimoFX or TimoTwo) or be used in pairs to replace a DMX connection where a wired line is difficult to install: over a river, a road, a ravine, or over long distances. They combine CRMX technology with Bluetooth connectivity, enabling configuration and fixture control from a tablet or smartphone. The Moonlite, Luna and Aurora transmit wireless DMX on 1 universe. More advanced and featuring an Ethernet card, the Stardust can transmit wireless DMX on up to 8 DMX universes.
- Galileo Range: The Galileo range is designed for DIN rail installations in integration and fixed setups to create wireless DMX communications for lighting control using the CRMX protocol. The general technical specifications are broadly similar to those of the Luna, Aurora and Stardust.
- Aurora transmitter
