The 7th edition of the Festival Chefs op en lumière will take place in Chalon from 27 January to 2 February 2025.
The Union of Cinematographers will be present through a delegation of members, as well as organising a lighting workshop and participating alongside the AFC in a roundtable on documentary filmmaking.
UCO Workshop: how to compose daylight in a studio?
Together with our partners, we are offering a participatory workshop on building fictional lighting in a studio. This year, the studio set will be equipped with a green screen: based on the image proposed behind the window, it will be up to you to imagine how to light the rest of the set. This workshop is open to all (professionals, students, general public). It is led by Séverine Barde (SCS), a Swiss cinematographer and director who will share over thirty years of career experience in fiction and documentary, and Thomas Lallier, UCO, a passionate and eclectic cinematographer.

Documentary Roundtable
In collaboration with the AFC, the UCO is organising a roundtable on the theme of documentary cinema. Cécile Bodénès, UCO, Charlotte Michel, UCO, Nicolas Le Gal, UCO, Isabelle Razavet, AFC, Laurent Chalet, AFC, Paul Guilhaume, AFC, Pascale Marin, AFC, Sarah Blum, AFC, Colin Levêque, SBC, and Thomas Favel, AFC, will address the issues and challenges of our profession within this cinematic genre, moderated by Catherine Briault.
What preparation goes into a documentary film? What is the relationship between the cinematographer and the subject? What boundaries are shared between fiction and documentary? How does image work adapt to broadcaster codes? The guests will share their images, their experiences and their thoughts on what is known as “cinéma du réel”.
