UCO’s Transmission group organised a workshop at RVZ to evaluate different Zeiss lens series. The tests made it possible to analyse and compare the quality of the GO, Radiance, Master Prime series as well as other Super 35 and Full Frame lenses.

On 24 and 25 October, UCO’s Transmission group gathered in RVZ’s new studio to deepen its knowledge. This group is made up of students, aspiring cinematographers and active members eager to keep learning and sharing their expertise.

RVZ kindly provided us with a space and various lens series for a series of comparative tests. These tests were designed to observe, under identical conditions, the optical behaviour of each lens — definition, bokeh, chromatic aberration, vignetting, distortion, coating, flare rendering and transmission.

With the support of Zeiss, the workshop covered a wide range of cine lenses: Super Speeds Mk I, Ultra Primes, CP.2, Master Primes, Supreme Primes, Supreme Prime Radiances and the GO series. The camera used was a Sony Venice 2, which allowed us to compare behaviour on both Super 35 and Full Frame sensors.

The test protocol was rigorous: each lens was tested at the same focal length and aperture, on the same framing, with controlled lighting. This allowed for objective and reproducible comparisons. The sessions were also an opportunity for participants to exchange views on the merits of each series and discuss their experiences on set.

We also took advantage of a visit from Hélène de Roux, Zeiss sales representative, to learn more about these series.

A detailed article presenting our test protocol and a comparative video will be published in the coming weeks.

We warmly thank our partners RVZ and Zeiss for making this workshop possible, and especially Salomé Bazin (RVZ), Hélène de Roux (Zeiss), Grégoire Ausina and the entire Transmission group.
