Blackmagic Design has announced the release of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K, a new high-end digital camera featuring a 6K full-frame sensor, 13 stops of dynamic range, an L-mount lens mount, dual native ISO up to 25,600 for incredible low-light performance, and CFexpress card recording. This new model features a massive 6K 24 x 36mm sensor, delivering full-frame cinema camera image quality in a portable and lightweight body. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K also features an L-mount compatible with a wide range of modern and vintage lenses for more creative options. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K is available at a price of $2,595 USD from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide.

The new Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K was designed to bridge the gap between dedicated cinema cameras and small mirrorless cameras. It offers cinema-quality images with a compact body size and is the ideal camera for independent filmmakers, documentarians, and content creators. Internally, the camera can simultaneously record Blackmagic RAW files with significant bit depth and H.264 proxies. No other camera offers this level of technology, image quality, and portability.
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K features a massive full-frame sensor with a native resolution of 6048 x 4032. It is nearly three times larger than a Super 35 sensor. Additionally, it allows shooting with shallow depth of field or with anamorphic lenses for a cinematic look without any crop. The 13 stops of dynamic range and dual native ISO up to 25,600 provide users with beautiful images with low noise, whether shooting in bright sunlight or very dark environments. Furthermore, users can shoot up to 36 fps at the sensor’s full resolution or at 120 fps in Window mode.
The large full-frame sensor of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K allows working in multiple formats and aspect ratios without loss of quality. Users can choose from open gate 3:2 at 6048 x 4032, 6K 16:9 at 6048 x 3404, Super 35 at full height 4096 x 3404, anamorphic 6:5 at 4838 x 4032, as well as 4K DCI at 4096 x 2160. For higher frame rates, users can set the sensor to Window mode to shoot at 100 fps at 2112 x 1184 Super 16. They can even work in anamorphic 6:5 at much higher resolutions than other cameras, with anamorphic lenses in 4.8K 24 fps at 4838 x 4032. They can also shoot at 120 fps in 1080 HD.
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K includes a CFexpress card slot and a USB-C expansion port for recording directly to external flash drives or SSDs. CFexpress media are more durable and faster, making them perfect for recording full-resolution 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files. Imagine being able to capture over one hour of full-resolution 6K footage on a single 256GB CFexpress card.
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K features a bright 5-inch HDR touchscreen that makes framing and focusing easy, regardless of lighting conditions. The touchscreen displays status information, histograms, focus peaking, 3D LUTs, and more, with simple tap and swipe gestures for quick access to settings and on-screen overlays. Users can also power the camera with standard NP-F570 batteries. The camera includes a full-size HDMI connector for monitoring or recording, a mini XLR input with 48V phantom power for professional microphones, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB-C expansion port, and two channels of high-quality built-in microphones.
