Biography
Bio Amath Niane
In the 2000s, Amath Niane fell in love with cinema while studying geography at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar. From 2006 onwards, he devoted his entire life to his love, and began touring film sets to feed his passion, working as a stage manager and assistant director.
In 2007, he had the good fortune to meet Abdel Aziz Boye, a leading figure in Senegalese cinema, who introduced him to writing and the language of film, prompting him to take his research a step further and enroll at the École Supérieure des Arts visuels in Marrakech, where he graduated with a degree in image.
Today, he is the cinematographer on several films. In 2023, at the Namur International Film Festival, he won the prize for best cinematography with the short film L'Envoyée de Dieu by Nigerian director Amina Abdoulaye Mamani.
Amath Niane lives and works in Africa, where he continues his research into the aesthetics of backlighting.
He is currently president of the Association des techniciens de l'audiovisuel et du cinéma sénégalais (ATACS), an association working to improve working and living conditions for technicians.
