Paris, April 30, 2021. In July 2020, twenty-one professional film and audiovisual associations noted in an open letter to producers’ unions that “a large number of freelance workers (…) are working without employment contracts” and called for “common vigilance, which is necessary, to establish contracts that correspond to our commitments and to be able to sign them no later than 48 hours after hiring.”
At the same time, an online survey was developed by the French Association of Cinematographers (AFC), the Light and Movement Collective (CLM), Les Monteurs associés (LMA) and the United Cinematographers Organization (UCO) to gather testimonies from technicians and measure the proportion of irregular situations in our sectors of activity. If the open letter of July 9, 2020—which remains unanswered—was not enough, the results of this investigation, published today, should raise awareness of the extent to which this illegal practice has reached our profession and pave the way for its immediate resolution.
